Dwyane Hay

Left-winger Dwayne Hay entered the 2001-02 season hoping to claim a more prominent role on the Calgary Flames. A fine scorer and checker in junior, he was strictly a utility player or farmhand since turning pro in 1997-98.

Born in London, Ontario, Hay was a scoring star with the local Travellers squad before moving up to the Listowel Cyclones of the OJHL junior B league. He then joined the OHL's Guelph Storm for three years and was selected 43rd overall by the Washington capitals in 1995. He played a couple of games for the Caps in 1997-98 but spent most of his time with the AHL's Portland Pirates. Late in the season Hay was sent to the Florida Panthers for veteran Esa Tikkanen.

Hay was mostly a farmhand for the Panthers until he was sent to the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of the package for Mike Sillinger in March, 2000. He played solidly for his new club over the last 13 games of the season but was placed on waivers a few months later. Hay was claimed by the Calgary Flames and was a decent checker for the team in 49 games during the 2000-01 season.
