Gord Sherven

After playing only one season with the Weyburn Red Wings of the SJHL where he collected 69 points in 44 games, Gord Sherven was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1981 Entry Draft. He went on to play at the University of North Dakota for two seasons before representing Canada in the 1983 World Junior Championships where Sherven and teammates Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman guided the Canucks to a bronze medal. Sherven also played for Canada in the World Championships as well as with the National Team during the 1983-84 season while making his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers in a brief two-game stint.

In his second season with the Oilers, Sherven was traded to the Minnesota North Stars where he saw his first and only Stanley Cup playoff action. The 1985-86 season saw Sherven change sweaters once again, as he was traded back to the Oilers, only to spend the majority of the season with the clubs farm team the Nova Scotia Oilers. He was then claimed in the Waiver Draft by the Hartford Whalers in 1986 but played just seven games for the Whalers and the rest of the time with the Canadian National Team.

The 1987-88 season marked Sherven's last in the NHL. He played only one game with Hartford and spent the majority of the year with the National Team once again. He played in the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary where the team finished a disappointing fourth.

Sherven then moved to Europe for the 1988-89 season where he played for several teams in Germany for the remainder of his career.
