Sergio Momesso
Left-winger Sergio Momesso was a bruising forward with an above average touch around the net. Throughout his career, he tantalized coaches and fans with hints that he was developing into an impact player only to enter into a slump for long stretches.
The native of Montreal, Quebec was chosen 27th overall by the Canadiens while he was enjoying an excellent career with the QMJHL's Shawinigan Cataracts. During his first three pro seasons he was in and out of coach Pat Burns' doghouse. In August 1988, he was traded to the St. Louis Blues and scored 24 goals in 1989-90.
Prior to the March 1991 trade deadline. Momesso was shipped to the Vancouver Canucks where he played his best hockey. Coach Pat Quinn used him on the power play and as a checker to keep his head in the game and he responded with consistent play.
In 1994, he registered seven points and provided leadership when Vancouver reached the Stanley Cup finals for the second time in franchise history. Late in his career, Momesso suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and St. Louis for a second time. He spent the 1997-98 season in Germany with Kolner Haie.
