Darryl Shannon
Darryl Shannon, the eldest of the two Shannon brothers by a year, played his junior hockey with his brother, Darrin, for the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL. He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs after only one season in the OHL. In his second season, he was awarded the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL's outstanding defenceman as well as being named a second all-star. His final season as a junior saw Shannon collect 83 points in only 60 games. His next stop was the NHL.
The 1988-89 year was spent briefly with the Leafs while the majority of it was with their farm team in Newmarket. For the next two seasons he was up and down with the Leafs, until he spent 48 games in Toronto for the 1991-92 season. After spending the next season in Toronto and St. John's, Shannon signed with the Winnipeg Jets as a free agent. It was there that he joined his younger brother to play along side with for the first time since being together in the OHL.
After two and a half seasons, he was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in 1996, where he enjoyed his most productive seasons. Shannon was on the move once again when the Atlanta Thrashers claimed him in the Expansion Draft of '99. He then moved on to the Calgary Flames before settling in with the Montreal Canadiens for his last season in the NHL, retiring in 2001.
