Former NHLers Invite Business to Team Up for Good Cause: Ex-Habs to play Hockey for the Homeless.
October 29, 2008
MONTREAL – More than a dozen former Habs including Vincent Damphousse, PJ Stock and Yvon Lambert are looking for team mates to play in Montreal’s 5th annual Hockey for the Homeless tournament to be held on November 14th at the 4-Glaces Sportsplex in Pierrefonds. In addition to its Montreal event, Hockey for the Homeless has been an annual tradition in Toronto since 1996 and new to Calgary this year, where the inaugural tournament will take place on November 28th. Since 1996, the organization has raised over 1.5 million dollars while helping more than 10,000 homeless men, women and children towards a better life.
Hockey for the Homeless allows members of the Montreal business community to not only raise money for a good cause but also play on one of 10 teams alongside ex-Habs and former Pros from around the league. In addition to being treated like a Pro for the day, participants receive gifts from event sponsors and enjoy lunch, a reception and dinner and a Silent Auction, all on location at the Sportsplex.
“The goal this year is to raise $160,000 to help the homeless in Montreal”, explains Peter Quarles, organizing committee volunteer and member of the Montreal business community. “We have many returning players again this year but it’s never too late and there are always open spots for players and sponsors, not to mention people willing to donate their time, in-kind gifts or money for the cause.”
In keeping with the Hockey for the Homeless mission to end homelessness, all proceeds from the event will go to worthy charitable organizations in Montreal for specific homeless-reintegration projects and programs.
