Programs we Support
Proceeds from Hockey Helps the Homeless focus on two areas:
1) Front Line Support Projects where trust is so crucial to building relationships with the homeless. Our Legacy started with the disbursement of Survival Kits on the Streets and has grown to purchasing mobile homes and vans for street outreach workers to use in ministering to the homeless.
Examples of Frontline Projects Include:
Benedict Labre House: Purchased van to transport food and clothing
Shelters: Hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of desperately needed furniture, food, goods and services
Light Patrol’s Curb Light: Purchased a Mobile Home used as a mobile outreach program that travels within Toronto’s inner city searching out and assisting youth who are on the extreme margins of society.
Survival Kits: Since 1996, we have handed out more than 15,000 kits that include sleeping bags, gloves, hats, socks, scarves, sleeping bags, toiletries and food snacks
2) Reintegration and Transitional Projects that provide innovative and structured initiatives for homeless people preparing to reintegrate into mainstream society. This includes funding for building projects such as libraries, computer rooms, personal hygiene facilities, physical fitness rooms, AA and NA meeting rooms as well as funds for purchasing fridges, freezers and furniture for transitional housing units.
Examples of Reintegration and Transition Projects Include:
Welcome Hall Mission: Purchased a 3rd Dentist Chair for a new project offering free dental work to the homeless in St. Henri, Montreal
Avenue 15: Refurbished the 2nd floor of the building that accommodates 8 bedrooms. Support included the costs of new furniture, wall repairs, new paint, new doors as well as renovating bathroom facilities
