The Cause
Hockey for the Homeless raises funds and awareness in support of homeless-solutions organizations directly in the communities where funds are raised. Through the significant leverage provided by our players, sponsors and supporters in the business community as well as the knowledge and expertise of our outreach partners, we intend to facilitate education and reintegration projects, and foster corporate and political will to put an end to homelessness in our lifetime.
The face of homelessness and its associated social challenges are changing every day. 30 years ago, the average Canadian had never heard the word homelessness and more than 90% of the people on the street were adult men. Today, it is estimated that there are more than 200,000 homeless people in Canada and children and young families make up the fastest growing segment of the homeless population.
At Hockey for the Homeless, we don't pretend to have all the answers but we're not afraid to ask the tough questions and get people talking. And we know enough to leave the heavy lifting to the experts, charitable organizations across Canada whose mission is to end homelessness in our lifetime.
